The annual event of the Season of Creation begins on September 1 (the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) and ends on October 4 (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology). This year’s theme is “To hope and act with Creation” and the symbol is “The first fruits of hope,” inspired by Romans 8:19-25.

The Season of Creation challenges the entire global Christian family to care for God’s creation through prayer and action. Pope Francis in his message for the ‘World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation’ this year stresses that Christians are called to live in faith and charity, caring for the environment is “a task to be undertaken freely, in obedience to Jesus’ commandment of love.”
